More than 50 musicians from mandolin ensembles in Australia and New Zealand are coming to Canberra for a week of rehearsals leading to a finale concert on 12 January which presents a range of classical, folk and contemporary music. The guest conductor is the internationally acclaimed mandolin virtuoso, Carlo Aonzo from Savona, Italy. The concert will feature the premiere of a commissioned piece by Australian composer Michelle Nelson. 'Viaggio del Mandolino' is a musical description of the mandolin's journey from Italy to Australia. After the FAME festival Carlo Aonzo will join the Canberra Mandolin Orchestra and the Dante Music Viva Choir for a concert of famous Italian songs, classical pieces and Australian music for mandolin, orchestra and guitar. The concert will also feature classical guitar master Segundo Vasquez. The event will be held on 15 January 2019, from 7.30 pm at Canberra's Italian Cultural Centre, 78 Franklin St, Forrest.
